This letter is a testament to the success of my 8-year-old daughter, who attends Educated Academy Elementary (EAE). My daughter used to attend public school for kindergarten. While attending the school, she faced tremendous challenges academically, socially, and emotionally. My daughter, identifying as a person of color, experienced systemic racism and discrimination from her peers, teachers, and within the education system. At the time, as a single mother, I was forced into having my daughter over-diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Dyslexia, and Tourette Syndrome, to name a few, and placed on medication by a pediatric psychiatrist in order to get her the necessary supports within the school. Even then, she was still unable to receive what she needed. Regardless of my stance on the matter, I had to succumb to the pressure, as they made it seem like my daughter’s future was bleak and that she would fall behind in her education. I met Maxine, EAE’s principal, through her tutoring program and eventually enrolled my daughter in her school. Within a couple of months of her first school year at EAE, my daughter’s grades, social skills, and mental health drastically improved. Since my daughter started attending EAE in Senior Kindergarten through to her present year in Grade 3, she has been off her medication, and little to none of the symptoms she was diagnosed with have come to the forefront. I am very grateful that I found EAE. Being a Black family added fear regarding the treatment my daughter would have continued to receive through the public school system, which continues to oppress my community. EAE is not only culturally safe but meets students where they are and supports each child to the best of their ability. EAE has become our community for students who have been failed by the public school system. As long as I can afford it, all my children will continue to attend EAE until they are old enough to go to high school. Once again, thank you to Maxine and the EAE teachers for all that you do for me and mine.

My name is Kimberline Dookie-Barron, and I have two amazing children who were labeled as Autistic and ADHD and, in my opinion, were given up on. My husband and I decided to withdraw them from the public Peel District School Board and place them in an environment where they were not labeled and where their unique needs were better supported. Choosing a Different Path I am incredibly grateful for the role Educate Academy Elementary has played in my children’s educational journey. Watching my two children thrive and grow under their guidance has been truly heartening. The academy’s unique approach to progressive education has helped them develop both academically and personally. They are encouraged to: Think critically Collaborate confidently Approach challenges with resilience Real Growth, Real Confidence I have seen significant improvements in their enthusiasm for learning. Their teachers’ genuine dedication to nurturing each student’s potential is evident in everything they do. Educate Academy has been an amazing journey for me and my son. My son started at this school at 3½ years old, and his speech was delayed. He was never judged. The Principal and staff worked patiently with him and continuously encouraged him. Today, he is talking so much more, and I am incredibly proud of his progress. Learning at His Level The educational system is superb. Children are taught at their level, not simply by their age, which keeps them engaged and prevents them from becoming bored easily. Because of this personalized approach, my son has been able to grow with confidence and enthusiasm. A School Like No Other This school is truly one in a million, and I would definitely recommend it. My daughter was falling behind in the public school system to the point where it was decided that an IEP would be best for her. Even then, I did not see any improvement. The only change I noticed was a decline in her self-confidence. I knew something had to change, so I registered her at EAE. The Best Decision I’ve Ever Made I can honestly say it has been the best decision I’ve ever made. My daughter now comes home smiling and excited to tell me everything she learned in her classes. Her confidence is through the roof, and it brings me so much joy to see her interested in learning again.
